Hello, my name is Mark…
I want to share with you a little about myself and many concepts of what I consider to be one of the best hobbies in the world! Then, I’ll recommend some fantastic model train resources that will teach you the best way to become involved in trains O scale as well as HO, N, and G scale modeling that covers detailed information for a complete beginner as well as for very advanced levels.
I was first exposed to this amazing hobby when I was just 7 years of age. I was in awe of my uncle’s O scale model train set and still remember fondly the days when he would be building scenes and displays and operating the trains while letting me watch and assist.
Ever since that time, I had wanted to build my own, slowly but surely, as finances would allow and birthdays would come. New tracks, locomotives, passenger carriages, scene and display kits and anything else I could get my hands on. To this day, I prefer the O scale train sets due to their larger size, various scales, large amount of accessories and very detailed design. I remember spending so much time in several hobby shops admiring the large range of different accessories and desiring to add certain items to my display.
Now, as an adult, I enjoy it even more and do not believe this is something you grow out of. What is unique about model train collecting is that is can be a hobby for life, enjoyed simultaneously by different generations! It is so enjoyable to be creative and and to develop more intimate knowledge of geography from making landscapes. Taking various ideas and morphing them into life like miniatures makes me feel like I am going back in time and entering another world.
There is no doubt, due to the complexity of this hobby, that model train collecting can certainly come with its frustrations. There are SO many various books and manuals, few of which have everything you need. Most just seem to focus on a specific area.
